Logs are grooved to allow for appearance of genuine chinking. Logs can then be chinked on the exterior, interior, or both.
Characterization:
The dovetail is the 'olde world' type log corner. Examples using this type of log can be seen in Cades Cove in the Great Smokeys and other historical communities.
